About the Course

This course is for counselors, nurses, physicians, social workers, psychologists, coaches and other helping professionals who are intuitively drawn to meditation, creativity, spirituality, energy, healing, human potentials and inner development.

You will learn and practice the skills of meditation, imagery and energy practices in a warm professional atmosphere. The goal is for you to find the best practices that bring internal relaxation, a calm and focused mind, increased connection with meaning and purpose, and an empowered sense of self-care in meeting the challenges of life.

These techniques have been used for the last 40 years in the fields of oncology, cardiology, psychiatry, alcohol and drug treatment, women’s health, adolescent day treatment, private practice, counseling and psychotherapy, nurse coaching, health and wellness coaching, psychospiritual development, and brainwave biofeedback research.

Meditation and Healing

In this course, you will learn how a transpersonal healing process can lead to a dramatic transformation within the people who come to you for help.  Using awareness and choice as a foundation, you will teach your patients meditation, imagery and energy practices to reduce suffering and increase peace and purpose in their daily lives.

Course Lectures

All classes taught live via small, interactive Zoom sessions from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST

Day 1: The Five Types of Meditation (2/18/23)

In the first lesson, we’ll start with the five types of meditation: transcendental, concentrative/receptive, creative, prayer/inner dialogue, and energy/movement. We’ll also discuss the idea of clinical imagery as the clinical use of the power of the imagination, further clarifying through the Lemon exercise as the experience of a stimuli in the absence of the stimuli itself.

Day 2: Anxiety Reduction: Teaching Self-Help to Others (2/19/23)

In our second lesson, we’ll focus on the widespread public health issue of anxiety and appreciate the role of the new neuroscience in teaching inner skills to our patients and clients.  You’ll learn the latest techniques in responding to and reducing anxious thoughts, images and feelings.

Day 3: Discovering the Wisdom Mind (3/4/23)

On Day 3, we’ll go over cross-cultural references and images for the “wisdom mind”, including the mystic’s vision, the artist’s muse, the scientist’s intuition, the Biblical “still small voice within”, Zen’s “the inner reason of the universe which exists in each mind”, Gandhi’s “inner light,” the 12 Steps’ “higher power”, and Assagioli’s “higher self.”

Day 4: The Possible Self: Transforming Negative Self-Images (3/5/23)

Utilizing the fact of awareness as energy, we can learn how to liberate ourselves from negative self-images and negative memorized opinions about ourselves. On Day 4, we’ll learn a meditation sequence for defeating difficult thoughts, as well as stream of consciousness and centering/naming.

Day 5: Dying, Death and Grief Imagery (3/25/23)

Many of our clinical meditation and imagery students work in healthcare and deal directly or indirectly with clients and clients struggling with dying or the death of a loved one. On Day 5, we’ll learn the Death Rehearsal Technique which some clients have described as one of the most important for liberating them from their fear. We’ll also learn the nature of dialogic (grief) imagery and how to apply it to people we have lost.

Day 6: The Spiritual Path, Transpersonal Imagery and Visualization Meditation (3/26/23)

The original purpose of sacred art was to symbolize and inspire higher states of consciousness. On Day 6,  we learn the practices of visualization meditation from both Western and Eastern traditions and how it can be applied clinically to the modern person's need for personal spiritual development.
